What is the story of easter in the bible?

The common understanding of easter is that it is a day that reminds us of the resurrection of the Messiah. Traditionally it is said that the Messiah was killed on Good friday and then resurrected on what is called easter sunday.

Let us first look at the the name Easter. If we read the bible we find mention of this word in

Acts 12:4

And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people.

Other traditions related to easter are the eating of Hot Crss Buns on good Friday, Easter Eggs and Easter bunnys, but what does all this have to do with the Messiahs ressurection?

The word easter in the bible

To look deeper at words in the bible it is necessary to use a concordance, which will show us the original words, so that they can be compared with the transliteration, we have of it.

If we look at the word easter in the Greek concordance it is

Number 3957. pascha pas’-khah, Easter, Passover.

It is compared to the Hebrew word 6453 pecach peh’-sakh from, Passover.

So it is safe to say that this is a bad transliteration, as the original Greek word is Pascha, which meant Passover.

So where did the word easter originate from? Research shows us that Astarte, Beltis or Ishtar, were all the names of a babylonian Goddess. If we compare Ishtar and Astarte to the word Easter there is an immediate similarity in the pronounciation of these words.

More information about this ancient babylonian Goddess can be found in the Book: The Two Babylons, by Alexander Hislop.

Good friday to easter sunday

As the Good Friday represents the Death of the Messiah and easter sunday his resurrection, it should agree with what the Messiah said about his death and resurrection.

Matthew 12:39-40

39But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas:

40For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

Mark 8:31

31And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders, and of the chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.

Both of these scriptures indicate that the Messiah would be dead for three days or three days and three nights before being resurrected.

If we look at the days between Good friday and Easer Sunday it is impossible to get three days and three nights from this, If we look at Mark 8:31, it is also impossible to say that between Friday and Sunday is “after three days as there are only two days after Friday to sunday, which are Saturday and Sunday.

What do Hot cross buns have to do with anything?

The Tradition of making buns with a cross on them is seen no where in the bible, but it is interesting to note that the Prophet Jeremiah makes mention to a custom involveing the making of cakes in honour of a Goddess (The Queen of Heaven) who incidentally is Ishtar.

Jeremiah 7:18

18The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead their dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke me to anger.

We see that these actions provoked the Most High to anger and he is extremely unhappy with this practice.

Often times we believe that just taking part in certain traditions is harmless but it is clear from the scripture in Jeremiah, this is not true….We should challenge our selves because a traditions that claims to honour the Most High but actually takes their origins from, other places will never be accepted by our Creator, it is for this very reason he left the Scriptures for us to read.

So the story of Easter in the bible tells us that Easter is not a celebration that the Father has ordained for us to keep., but Passover is the feast that is to be kept at this time

Peace and have great day!
