It is fair to say that many people in particularly women would never think about consulting the bible about issues such as their period commonly called the menstruation.
A menstruation is the cycle between each period, which is usually 28-30 days approximately. A period will lasts seven days, which is from the day blood comes out of the vagina, which is the releasing of an unfertilized egg and tissue from the uterus.

Science tells us that period lasts 3-5 days, but the bible says 7, which tells us that a women is totally clean 7 days after the period and not 3 or 5. It should also be noted that a period can last longer than 7 days also
Leviticus 15:19, 25
19And if a woman have an issue, and her issue in her flesh be blood, she shall be put apart seven days: and whosoever toucheth her shall be unclean until the even.
25And if a woman have an issue of her blood many days out of the time of her separation, or if it run beyond the time of her separation; all the days of the issue of her uncleanness shall be as the days of her separation: she shall be unclean.
As you can see from the verse above during a womans period who ever touches her is ceremonially unclean. This means they should not be involved in, the celebration of feast days until the evening (which is when the light disappears and it gets dark) , and also until they have washed them self, as can be seen below:
Leviticus 22:5-8
5Or whosoever toucheth any creeping thing, whereby he may be made unclean, or a man of whom he may take uncleanness, whatsoever uncleanness he hath;
6The soul which hath touched any such shall be unclean until even, and shall not eat of the holy things, unless he wash his flesh with water.
7And when the sun is down, he shall be clean, and shall afterward eat of the holy things; because it is his food.
8That which dieth of itself, or is torn with beasts, he shall not eat to defile himself therewith; I am the LORD.
This highlights an important factor when dealing with people, i.e. it is not good to shake everybodies hand when you meet them. Today, it is hard to know if aperson is on a period because they are unlikely to tell you, but it is something to be aware of.
As well as being unclean until the evening, in the case of touching a womens period blood the man that is touched by it will be unclean for 7 days an anything else the blood touches will be unclean 7 days also.
Leviticus 15:24
24And if any man lie with her at all, and her flowers be upon him, he shall be unclean seven days; and all the bed whereon he lieth shall be unclean.
You should know that laws for uncleanness are for those who had unintentionally sinned and not for those that willfully sinned.
The punishment for the wicked was to can be seen below
Leviticus 20:18
18And if a man shall lie with a woman having her sickness, and shall uncover
her nakedness; he hath discovered her fountain, and she hath uncovered the fountain of her blood: and both of them shall be cut off from among their people.
Cut off here meant to be put to death, but this was the punishment for the unrepentant.
If you are a woman reading this you can see how important it is to remain holy at all times, and not to hug and touch people when you know that you are having a period. You should also not panic if your period lasts more than 7 days, just remain faithful and pray and you will be okay.
After reading this it is clear that the act of intercourse during menstruation is frowned upon by YHWH, it also puts into perspective the organization we are supposed to have as believers.
