Interesting Bible Verses About Giving

Many have the mindset that giving is always a good thing! This fact can’t be denied, but is it always good to give. Some believe that giving without an awareness of what the money will be used for is harmless.

To find out what AHYH says about giving we must search the bible verses about giving to find out his thought on the subject as we know our thoughts and his are not the same. When we read the scriptures and the events involving the Israelite’s we can find a number of bible verses about giving that deal with this subject.

A good place to start is to find out what the scriptures say concerning people that we give too. It is very important to understand who YHWH considers a neighbour. Often times people a christian is dictated to concerning who they should give their resources too. In some cases a form of emotion black mail is used, especially in the feed “a child” advertisements and various other organised schemes set up to get a donation.

An unlearned christian is often convinced to give money purely because of the feeling that it is supposed to be a good thing. So lets look at places in the bible where the giving is mentioned. For this we have to look at the Apocrypha (hidden books), here we can find some telling scriptures concerning giving.

The first scripture to look at is in the book of Tobit or Tobias.

Tobit (Tobias) 2:1,2

1 Now when I was come home again, and my wife Anna was restored unto me, with my son Tobias, in the feast of Pentecost, which is the holy feast of the seven weeks, there was a good dinner prepared me, in the which I sat down to eat.

2 And when I saw abundance of meat, I said to my son, Go and bring what poor man soever thou shalt find out of our brethren who is mindful of the Lord; and, lo, I tarry for thee.

Here we see an Israelite by the name of Tobit who was celebrating the feats of Pentecost, of feast of weekes. because he has extra food during this feast, he tells his son to go and get some poor people so that they can take part in the feast.

Some important points to not is that, Tobit specifically says to bring “poor man soever thou shalt find out of our brethren”. This is clear indication that those that they gave food to were to be of the same understanding, we can safe say this means those that are keepers of AHYH commandments. This is mentioned also where it says , “who is mindful of the Lord”.

As Tobit was a devout Israelite and keeper of the laws, he was in a position to know what acceptable giving was. One of the main factors was to give to those that truly believed in AHYH.

Another scripture that brings greater clarity to the whole giving experience can also be found in the Apocrypha.

Ecclesiasticus (Sirach) 12:4-7

4 Give to the godly man, and help not a sinner.

5 Do well unto him that is lowly, but give not to the ungodly: hold back thy bread, and give it not unto him, lest he overmaster thee thereby: for [else] thou shalt receive twice as much evil for all the good thou shalt have done unto him.

6 For the most High hateth sinners, and will repay vengeance unto the ungodly, and keepeth them against the mighty day of their punishment.

7 Give unto the good, and help not the sinner.

This scriptures makes it even clearer that thought has to go into the giving the process! It clearly indicates that a believer is not to give to an ungodly person.

We can even see the reason why, which is

“…lest he overmaster thee thereby…”

This can mean a number of things, first  giving carelessly can lead to robbery. For example have you ever given money to someone and as soon as you pulled out the money they asked you for more? If you haven’t I have, and I almost regretted giving them the money. This could so easily been me setting my self up for a robbery.

The second meaning that can be taken from this is in the case where you are giving to people of different faiths, who’s main objectives are in stark contrast to the scriptures.

As a true believer you should already know that there is only on GOD, so giving to muslims, Sikhs, Buddhist, huge charity organizations and any other faiths would be totally counter productive and by doing so you are allowing them to take advantage (over master) of you.

So before giving it is important to know the person or organization you are giving to. Giving to an organization that calls them self christian, but in the same breath accepts all denominations clearly makes them non christian so there is no obligation at all to give to them.

You should also consider the length of time a lot of christian charity organizations have been running and the very little help that the people of the countries in question have received.

Here are some of the diabolic picture ploys used to get you to feel guilty and donate your money.

In future before you give your money consider whether or not it is forwarding AHYH’s kingdom and the Messiahs return? There is no point giving money to drunkards, or the ungodly homeless or even charity organizations that have nothing spiritual to show.

You should Consider how much of your money is going to administration costs….?

Quick note: The purpose of this post is not to stop you giving, we should all give but, we should be more active when doing so, rather than doing it to appease our own self conscience. Helping people brings great joy but we should all do it with our eyes open and not out of guilty, or lazily.
